Eden-Albert Community Board by-election

An extraordinary vacancy has occurred in the Eden Albert Community Board of the Auckland City Council. Accordingly, a by-election was required to be held to fill the vacancy. The by-election was conducted under the provisions of the Local Electoral Act 2001 and the Local Electoral Regulations 2001.

Date of by-election

The by-election was held by postal vote on Thursday 9 April 2009.

Voting documents were posted to all eligible electors from Wednesday 18 March 2009.

The three week voting period

  • started Wednesday 18 March 2009 and
  • finished at noon on election day, Thursday 9 April 2009.

Those eligible to vote at the Eden-Albert by-election are all resident electors and non-resident ratepayer electors whose names appear on the Preliminary Electoral Roll for the Eden-Albert Community.


Results

These are final results for the Eden-Albert Community Board by-election:

Simon Mitchell is therefore the elected new community board member for the Eden Albert Community Board.

Voter turnout was 26.1 per cent, which compares to 38.3 per cent for this ward at last year's triennial election.

Voting

Electors could post their completed voting document back to the Electoral Officer using a pre-paid envelope sent with the voting document. A Polling Place for the issuing of Special Voting documents and for the receiving of completed voting documents was available over the voting period from the Electoral Office. In addition, completed voting documents were able to be received at the Mt Albert community library from 9am to noon on election day (Thursday 9 April 2009).

To be counted, all completed voting documents had to be in the hands of the Electoral Officer or Deputy Electoral Officer, by noon, Thursday 9 April 2009.
