How to become an elected representative
You must be:
- over 18 years of age
- registered on the electoral roll
- a New Zealand citizen
You will need to be nominated by two people who need to sign your nomination
form. These two people must be on the electoral roll in the ward you wish to
represent.
Nominations for all positions in the 2007 Local Body Elections closed at
noon on Friday 24 August 2007.
In Auckland city, individuals can stand as independent candidates or under a
particular party grouping. This is similar to the process that political parties
have for candidates in parliamentary elections.
Candidates may wish to refer to the Local Electoral Act 2001 regarding the
election issues at www.legislation.govt.nz.
