Council members and meetings

Pacific Islands Board Auckland City (PIBAC)

In 2006, PIBAC was established to increase participation from Pacific communities with the vision of creating opportunities for Pacific people to contribute to the diverse social and economic fabric of Auckland city as the 'First City of the Pacific'.

PIBAC members are elected from their respective communities and are a key link and voice between the council and Pacific communities in Auckland city. The board has signed memorandum of understanding with Auckland City Council, demonstrating on both sides this commitment to supporting the valuable place and contributions to Tangata Pasifika in the development of Auckland city today and into the future.

A funding agreement signed between PIBAC and council in 2007 provides key work plan activities that will assist advancing Pacific peoples' progress. PIBAC have set up various sectoral sub-committees and respective village groups to progress community outcomes. PIBAC with Auckland City Council does this through:

  • leadership
  • participation
  • ownership
