Payments to elected representatives

Honorarium | Resource Management Act hearings | Community board meetings | Expenses and allowances

Honorarium

Elected representatives are classified as self employed and are paid an honorarium.

There are different levels of remuneration depending on specific responsibilities being undertaken. The total remuneration pool is set nationally by the Remuneration Authority. How the pool is divided is determined by a working party of elected representatives who recommend to council. Council then recommends it's position to the Remuneration Authority who has the responsibility for issuing a final determination for all local bodies.
