The building consent process

Generally, all consent applications will follow a six-stage process: lodgement, planning, drainage, structural, finalising details, quality control then approval.

A series of tasks are carried out at each of these stages. Each consent application will include a different set of tasks - these will depend on the nature of the consent.

The processing time for a building consent application is 20 working days. The longest stage in the process is checking and finalising the report.

Code compliance certificate applications (CCCs) generally follow a 4-stage process. This takes 20 working days from when the CCC application is lodged.
