Special liquor licence

Wine glass. Order a special licence for an event or series of events. The online service is for the special licence application for events held in premises only. Your special licence will be dispatched as usual (eg fax, post, etc).

  • you must be 20 years or older to apply
  • special licences cannot be renewed. However, if you know the dates of future events to be held at the same venue, you can obtain a special licence for future events on the one application
  • the fee for a special licence is $64.40 (inclusive GST). This fee is non-refundable
  • the company or person taking the profit from the sale of liquor should be the applicant

The processing time for an application for a special licence is 25 working days. This includes a period of 20 working days required by the Sale of Liquor Act 1989. Controversial applications or profit oriented commercial applications may need to be advertised through a public notice. Consequently, additional time is required to process these. In these cases 40 working days notice is required.

You will need
  • credit card details (Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club)
  • details of the address the application is for
  • details of your event
  • the following attachments saved on your computer in .tif format
    • owner's consent (if you do not own the premises)
    • floor plan of the proposed licensed premises
    • if the application is for a series of one-off events, attach a schedule of events
    • other attachments - eg  managers certificate.

  • when using the service we recommend that you use the navigation buttons provided within the screens. Use of the 'enter' key in some screens may have unexpected results.
