Noise
Vector Arena design
Vector Arena meets District Plan noise limits. The state of
the art design includes a double skin roof construction with considerable mass
in each skin and interior noise absorptive lining of the arena.
The design takes into account the nearest residential
buildings outside of the precinct in Parnell (approximately 300m from the site).
This residential precinct has a more restrictive noise environment than that
which applies to the closest neighbouring residences in the former Railway
Station building. The arena design meets the noise controls both within the Quay
Park precinct and outside that precinct.
The environment around the Quay Park precinct is noisy, due
in the most part to the proximity to the Ports of Auckland, the city's working
port, and neighbouring road and rail networks.
Internal acoustics
Vector Arena is fitted with a revolutionary acoustic
system, used in NZ for the first time. It is constructed and equipped to the
highest international standards.
Vector Arena resource consent
As a condition of receiving resource consent, Vector Arena
was required to alleviate noise to an internal level of 110dBA in order to
achieve compliance with the Operative Isthmus District Plan noise control at the
Parnell residential boundary.
An internal noise level of no more than 110dBA will ensure that any noise
reaching the Parnell residential boundary complies with the noise standard of
45dBA for that residential area.
