Transport and access

Accessibility to and from the Vector Arena
The Quay Park site is accessible, highly visible and well located on the edge of the CBD.
- It is within easy reach of public transport, hotels (there are approximately 4,000 hotel rooms within 2km of the site), restaurants and
a large population base
- It is on the tourist circuit
- It is highly visible, from both Beach Road and Quay Street
- It is accessible - by foot, by road (from the south, east and west), by ferry and by rail
- It is adjacent to the waterfront and related visitor developments.
Overseas experience shows that arenas work best when they are centrally located, within easy reach of public transport, parking buildings,
accommodation and central city entertainment.

The transport advantages of the Quay Park site are:
- it is in the centre of a network of major roads
- vehicles arriving at and leaving the Vector Arena will be dispersed in four directions - east along Tamaki Drive, south-east to the Southern
Motorway, south-west to the North Western Motorway and north-west to Fanshawe Street and the Harbour Bridge
- motorway improvements in the Grafton Gully have further improved road access and egress
- the Vector Arena is close enough to the Auckland CBD to allow patrons to walk or catch public transport
- rail access to the Vector Arena will be via the Britomart station
- the downtown ferry terminal is a 10-minute walk away and Quay Street and Beach Road have been upgraded to make this walk safe and pleasant
- most buses into the CBD come within a 10-minute walk of the site. Some, like the Link Bus, will stop virtually at the door of the Vector Arena.
Parking
The Auckland City District Plan limits the amount of parking allowed on the site. This supports the council's policy of encouraging people to
come into the central business district by public transport.
There will be no public parking available at the Vector Arena. The only parking on-site will be for performers, disabled patrons and chartered buses.
Parking in the street - in downtown Auckland or in nearby Parnell - will not be an option. This is because most streets nearby have parking limits or
are resident-only parking and these restrictions will be enforced.
How will parking be managed?
The Vector Arena management company, QPAM, will educate and encourage patrons to use public transport. This would mean, for example, someone coming
from Orewa to a concert could park in the North Shore Busway 'park and ride' at Albany and catch a bus that would take them virtually to the
door of the arena.
For patrons who do choose to drive, there are over 7,000 short-term car parking spaces in downtown Auckland within a 1.5km distance of the Vector Arena.
