Area of interest on CBD board

Our manuhiri (guests) must feel welcomed in our lands. We want them to have opportunities to make real connections to Ngati Whatua and to other Aucklanders. Our CBD can no longer ignore its' Maori and South Pacific roots. Our arts, theatre, architecture and events must meaningfully leverage this. There must also be a place for people on lower incomes to live, work and play. It is 150 years since Maori participated fully in Auckland commerce. Ngati Whatua and other tribes are becoming significant players again and Auckland's CBD is vital for the ongoing recovery of the Maori economy.

Why I'm passionate about Auckland's CBD

Ngati Whatua jointly founded the city with Governor Hobson. We have a duty to realise the vision of our ancestors for a peaceful, prosperous and inclusive society.
