Activity in the CBD

Exciting events and activities are a key element in the transformation of Auckland's CBD into one of the worlds most vibrant and dynamic business and cultural centres.

In implementing Auckland's CBD Into the future strategy a number of initiatives have been developed to enliven and animate Auckland's CBD.

Auckland CBD public activity strategy

The Auckland CBD public activity strategy has two goals:

  • to enliven the streets of the CBD
  • to develop the infrastructure required to support street-level activities in the CBD.

This document should be read in conjunction with the Auckland City events strategy. The events strategy signals 10 signature events, mostly focused in the CBD, that will support Auckland's strengths and identity, and enhance a vibrant atmosphere in the central city. These events will be focused around the key themes: maritime, cultural and ethnic diversity, artistic and creative, and active outdoor and sporting.

Living Room

Living Room is funded by the CBD targeted rate and seeks to enliven the central city's public spaces and encourage people to discover the vibrant sights and sounds of the CBD. It is part of Auckland's CBD Into the future strategy, which aims to transform Auckland's CBD into one of the world's most vibrant and dynamic business and cultural centres.
