Introduction
Auckland's CBD is
a diverse city centre, having developed as a cluster of distinct areas or
quarters. Each quarter has its own characteristics, uses and functions.
Auckland's CBD Into the future strategy requires quarter plans to reinforce,
develop and promote each of these distinct areas.
Quarter plans are
place-based plans to guide the development of each area over the next 10 to 15
years. They will seek to:
- integrate the
social, cultural, economic and environmental planning for each area in ways that
reinforce its particular character, flavour and function
- integrate the
individual quarters with each other and with the whole CBD including:
- spatially: for example, improving the way the CBD
fits together and functions through its built environment, footpath and open
space networks
- functionally: for example, developing a retail
strategy for the overall CBD and applying that strategy at the quarter level
- experientially: providing different sorts of
experiences in different quarters while keeping a focus on how we want people to
experience the overall CBD
- integrate with
Auckland's CBD Into the future strategy by outlining how they will help achieve
the CBD's vision and outcomes.
Quarter plans identify the opportunities in each quarter and set out specific
guidelines for their future development in both the public and private sector.
By embracing the unique potential of each quarter, the diversity of Auckland's
CBD will increase and foster a wide range of cityscapes, spaces and activities.
