Te Awhi Tangata (To embrace, nurture and support the people)
Growing Families logoThis project aims to support a healthy active lifestyle in Glen Innes by offering free support and advice on healthy lifestyles. It focuses on improving health through better nutrition, increasing exercise levels and smoking cessation. Opportunities are provided for people to participate in safe, accessible and affordable physical activity. Participants are encouraged to improve their lifestyle and wellbeing, and when a certain level has been achieved, they graduate from the programme.
Community Link was established by graduates of Te Awhi Tangata and it is a community group working towards empowering and promoting a healthier lifestyle with more physical activity in the Glen Innes community. The Glen Innes Health Project and ProCare support the group.

Growing Families
This project is in collaboration with The Salvation Army, Sport Auckland, Plunket, Ngati Whatua o Orakei Health, Glen Innes Library and Glen Innes Health Project. Seven weekly sessions are held to promote parenthood and celebrate the family unit. The project has a strengths based approach where parents are able to work on such things as self-esteem, nutrition and community participation; it also incorporates an active movement programme delivered by Sport Auckland.

Healthy Kai logoHealthy Kai
The Glen Innes Healthy Kai group was established to assist in promoting, and thereby extending, the range of ready to eat healthy and safe choices available at the Glen Innes shopping centre. The group helps to ensure the viability of healthy choices by working with retailers, local health providers, other stakeholders and their own community links. The group is a partnership between Auckland Regional Public Health Service, Ruapotaka Marae, NZ National Heart Foundation, ProCare, Hapai Te Hauora Tapui Ltd, Community Child Health and Disability Service, Tamaki Healthcare, Glen Innes Business Association and the Glen Innes Health Project.
Healthy Kai was launched in November 2006 with events planned for 2007.

Women's health hui
This is a project aims to improve the knowledge of Glen Innes women on breast and cervical cancer.
The Glen Innes Health Project, in collaboration with Well Woman's Nursing Service (WONS), Primary Health Organisation ProCare and Ka Mau Te Wero, held the first ever Women's Health Hui for the women of Glen Innes in 2005.
Designed to be a fun, informative and interactive event, the aim of the hui is to educate women about issues that affect their health and enable them to make informed choices about their health care. Using a combination of presentations, group discussions and displays, attendees learn about women's health services such as breast and cervical screening, HRT and menopause. Attendees are encouraged to interact and are able to ask questions that they would normally be too embarrassed or uncomfortable to raise.
