Kingsland main street upgrade

The project | Workshop 2007 | Previous works in Kingsland | Kingsland's heritage

The project

The Kingsland main street upgrade aims to create a street that is inviting, safe and celebrates the heritage of Kingsland.

The upgrade will cover the business area on New North Road. This extends from the intersection of Sandringham Road and Bond Street in the east to approximately 504 New North Road heading west. Construction is likely to start in early 2009.

Community workshop

Following the community workshop run in November 2007, Auckland City Council has been working on ideas in response to your comments, which included:

  • improve and protect Kingsland's identity
  • make the plaza a better place
  • provide art
  • more 'greenery'
  • space for outdoor events
  • improve lighting.

A second community workshop was held at The Kingslander on Monday, 12 May 2008. The workshop was an opportunity for the local community to share their ideas and provide feedback. Working with a project advisory group, made up of representatives from the community, including the local business association, officers are now reviewing the workshop feedback and using it to develop a design for Kingsland main street upgrade.

It is anticipated that final detailed design for the street will be completed by the end of December 2008.
