Concept plan
The aim of the proposed design for Lumsden Green Reserve is to enhance it's
role as a 'green oasis' in the centre of Newmarket.
Auckland City wants Lumsden Green to become a gateway to Newmarket and to be
a park where many people like to relax and spend time.
The plans include:
- a stainless steel and glass canopy at the
intersection of Broadway and Khyber Pass Road
- feature lighting and lit paths so the park
can be used at night.
- the creation of an amphitheatre-like grassed
area
- the development of a performance space
- new and wider paths through the park
- a low rock wall around part of the reserve
- new planting of deciduous trees
- Davis Crescent entrance becoming more
pedestrian-friendly
The artworks in Lumsden Green, including the Ted Smythe water fountain and
the Marte Szirmay sculpture, will remain.
The old canon in the park will be moved to another site in Newmarket.
Materials used will be consistent with those used in other parts of
Newmarket, including 'Newmarket' stone, Chinese basalt, stainless steel
bollards, and timber benches.
