Improvements to Manukau
Road
To allow faster, more efficient travel between the CBD and Auckland Airport, and
to reduce congestion for local residents and businesses, Auckland City Council
is planning improvements to Manukau Road.
The proposed changes would mean:
- quicker and more reliable travel to and from the airport, particularly
during the afternoon peak
- airport traffic will be more likely to stay on the main route, away
from side streets, which will benefit local businesses and residents, especially
during peak hours
- reduced delays at traffic lights on Manukau Road
- extending clearways and improving pedestrian and traffic safety.
The proposed changes are part of a programme of wider improvements, including
work already carried out on Gillies Avenue, Pah Road and the motorway.
This
recognises the importance of Manukau, Pah and Queenstown roads as the most
popular route to and from the airport, carrying over 32,000 vehicles every day.
