Manukau Road

Consultation and next steps
The proposal
We plan to begin work on Manukau Road between Newmarket and
Greenwoods Corner (where Pah Road begins) in October and we expect to be
finished before the end of the year.
We consulted stakeholders and the community and following consideration of
public feedback by council's Transport Committee in August 2009, the proposal
below has been updated. See Consultation and next steps
See the maps below for more details of
proposed changes. We plan to:
- extend clearway periods, for traffic travelling into the CBD, during
the evening peak (4-6pm, Mon-Fri)
- extend the existing clearways in each direction between Pah Road and
Green Lane West, which will result in two lanes in each direction, depending on
the clearway hours
- establish right turn restrictions at Rangiatea Road, Gardner Road, and
Onslow Avenue to reduce traffic queues and improve pedestrian and traffic safety
at those intersections NB: there are good alternative routes for
motorists affected by these right turn restrictions
- remove some of the existing parking areas, on the side travelling away
from the CBD. This will provide clearer road space, which reduces the need for
traffic to merge into one lane.
Notes:
-
the proposed changes do NOT involve the widening of any section of Manukau
Road
-
the two pedestrian refuges referred to in the key of the diagram below would
sit between Claude Road and Rangiatea Road; and between Banff Avenue and
Onslow Avenue.
