Memory Corner
Ellerslie's historic Memory Corner received a makeover to remember in a $280,000 upgrade in February 2006.
The site, bounded by the main highway and Findlay Street close to the motorway pedestrian overbridge, will be transformed into an attractive public
open space, doing justice to its former role as Ellerslie’s focal point and the site of the Ellerslie Hotel.
The upgrade will feature bluestone walls, timber seats and stone clad concrete benches, as well as tree and shrub planting to enclose the space.
Memory Corner was given its name in 2001 following a competition to name the area. The name refers to its strong historical connections as the location
of the hotel and Mickey Bain's Store, Ellerslie's only grocery store.
The pedestrian bridge remained open throughout the works period, and was completed in late May 2006.
