Morningside streetscapes upgrade
The proposed Morningside streetscapes upgrade aims to protect the area's character
and heritage, as well as ensuring pedestrians can move safely and quickly
between the railway station, the shops (at the intersection of Morningside Drive
and New North Road) and Eden Park.
Details of the upgrade are yet to be determined, but could include:
- improved
footpaths and lighting
- new furnishings
- creation of open spaces
- planting.
The streetscape improvements will be closely co-ordinated with the Auckland
Regional Transport Authority's (ARTA) proposed upgrade of the railway station.
The benefits
- The upgrade will allow pedestrians to move safely and quickly to and from Eden
Park and the Morningside railway station, therefore minimising disruption to
residents and businesses in the area.
- The enhanced look, feel and safety of the streetscapes will make the business
area a more attractive destination.
- Improved walking routes to Morningside railway station will make it easier for
people to catch public transport.
