Location
The Otahuhu recreation precinct is based on Fairburn Reserve, Mason Avenue, Otahuhu. The precinct also incorporates the Mason Avenue/Hall Avenue
car park (behind the Holy Trinity Church) and eight residential properties.
The precinct has been designed for recreation and community purposes, which required the council to compensate the affected owners and buy the
properties. Seven of the eight affected residential properties in Mason Avenue have already been purchased by the council. Auckland City Council is
negotiating with the remaining property owner.
Creating a recreation precinct and bringing together multiple facilities generates the most benefits and returns for the community. The recreation
precinct developed in a multi-purpose complex will enable synergies in design, physical connections, operation and cross patronage of users. The unique
combination of facilities will also be a first for New Zealand and will be an important meeting place for all residents in Otahuhu.
