Recreation and youth centre (Stage one)

Construction (by NZ Strong Construction Ltd) began on 30 May 2005 and was completed on 10 March 2006. The centre opened to the public from 1 April 2006 and is operated by YMCA Auckland on behalf of Auckland City Council.

Elements that reflect the diversity of Otahuhu's community and sense of place have been incorporated into the design, including the curved roof which is symbolic of an up-turned waka, banana leaf or flax basket. The roof is supported by poles, to create the impression of fishing poles leaning against the building. Above the windows are timber screens, similar to sun-shades in pavilions. The design of the complex also took into consideration the proposed swimming pool development.

A formal area outside is surrounded by a sloping grass bank. The complex features full size indoor netball and basketball courts, two three-quarter basketball and netball courts, two volleyball courts, four badminton courts, a youth drop-in centre, a fitness room and changing and administration facilities.
