Auckland City is improving the pedestrian network throughout the Central Business District (CBD). A pedestrian focused signage system has been developed to provide a sense of familiarity and orientation for both local users and visitors to the CBD.

The signage system is based on a 'Family of Signs' which are to be established to aid pedestrian orientation across the CBD. The structure of this family of signs is based on providing information in regards to place, time and direction. Graphics on the signs include localised imagery, interpretive information and a clock.

The content on the signage system provides directional data and information about Auckland's CBD while reinforcing a sense of connection for pedestrians. The signage network also aims to provide a sense of safety and security for all pedestrians within the CBD while reflecting a sense of place within the local environment.

The pedestrian orientation network rollout was completed in late 2004.
