Pt England Beach replenishment project
The council is getting on with improving Pt England Beach
Locals and people who visit the area are encouraged to have their say on plans to replenish sand on the beach, so people can access and enjoy a sandy beach in all tides.
Consultation on the preliminary design starts on Friday, 13 August and runs until Sunday, 29 August.
This project was included in the council's $10 million citywide coastal upgrade programme, endorsed by the Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee in March 2009.
It's expected the Pt England Beach replenishment project would commence mid-next year and be complete by that November, in time for people to enjoy that summer.
The project involves importing sand and constructing a groyne structure (mimicking natural rock features) to improve beach stability.
As a result, 250 metres of beach would be replenished, providing an all tide sandy beach.
Similar projects in the east (Kohimarama and St Heliers) and west (Pt Chevalier, Herne Bay, Blockhouse Bay) have greatly enhanced these beaches and supported their increased recreational use.
