Statue of Sir Dove-Myer Robinson
A memorial sculpture of former Auckland City mayor, Sir Dove-Myer (Robbie) Robinson has been placed in Aotea Square. The sculpture celebrates
the extraordinary contribution Robbie made to the city and was extremely timely as 2002 is the 100th anniversary of his birth. The project was
spearheaded by Dame Barbara Goodman, Robbie's niece and also his Mayoress, and who was an Auckland City Councillor.
The sculptor who was chosen to portray Robbie is Aucklander, Toby Twiss, who is well known for his bronze casts. He is also a teacher and
lecturer of the art.
The unveiling occurred on Friday 19 July 2002. Mayor Banks and Dame Barbara Goodman spoke, along with Professor Cumberland who spoke on behalf
of the family. The actual unveiling was done by Mayor Banks and two representatives of the Robinson family.
