Talbot and Kotuku Parks development

Overview

Talbot and Kotuku parks were developed as part of a community renewal project undertaken in partnership with Housing New Zealand Corporation, and provided a unique opportunity to redevelop the public spaces together to achieve a cohesive result.

The two new parks

The two new parks are easily accessible and will give Glen Innes locals many more opportunities to take part in outdoor activities. The redeveloped parks meet a demand for spaces that cater for a variety of interests ranging from skateboarding to outdoor performances, children's play areas and sheltered exercise areas.

They also incorporate Crime Prevention through Environmental Design principles to reduce opportunities for undesirable activity.

Talbot Park

Talbot Park is accessible via Flanders Street, Pt England Road and Salima Talagi Street. It features:

  • a children's playground
  • skate facilities
  • open green spaces for informal recreation
  • a hardcourt performance area.

Kotuku Park

Kotuku Park is accessible via Apirana Avenue and Tippett Street. It features:

  • a large open Pacific sail-shaped pavilion for sheltered exercise and recreation
  • adventure play equipment
  • open green spaces for informal recreation
  • a children's cycleway.
