Creating a fully inclusive society!
Breaking down the barriers
To create a fully inclusive Auckland, both physical and social barriers to community and civic participation must first be removed.
Auckland City Council plays a role in creating a truly accessible environment for all disabled people so that they are treated with respect and can participate fully in all
areas of life.

There are approximately 77,000 disabled people in Auckland city and 250,000 in the wider region. With the
ageing population this number will rise.
We will all be functionally disabled at some time in our lives. It may be permanent or temporary caused by an accident, illness, ageing
or a congenital condition.
Our society is built in a way that assumes that we:
- can all move quickly from
one side of the road to the other
- can all see signs, read directions,
hear announcements and reach buttons
- all have the strength to open heavy doors and
- all have stable moods and perceptions.

information or to talk to somebody about what we're doing.
