Council's disability programme adviser Minnie Baragwanath, and Disability Issues Advisory Group member Chris Orr test out the tactile pavers on Queen Street.

Current and upcoming projects that have input from the disability issues advisory group and the disability advisor.

The disability advisor is also involved in:

  • progressing  the Step Up report recommendations and the Stepping UP Disability Leadership programme.
  • Lu'I Ola - Pacific Disability project
  • Auckland Regional Transport Authority Transport Disability Advisory Group to improve public transport
  • Arts Access Aotearoa Book (supporting role)
  • Auckland City Art Gallery disability advisory group and action plan (supporting role).

Recent projects and achievements:

  • support of the Vaka Tautua Disability Day celebrations on 4 December 2009
  • design and launch of pilot Access Auckland website on accessible tourism
  • design and delivery of the Stepping Up leadership series
  • launch of the Step Up Auckland report and accompanying DVD
  • input into design standards for park furniture designs
  • learning Quarter project
  • support of the Mental Health Awareness week
  • support of the No 8 wire disability network for Auckland City Council staff.
