Types of engineering applications

There are four different types of engineering applications:

Lodge an engineering application

We recommend that engineering applications are lodged by an engineer.

All engineering applications can be lodged in person at 35 Graham Street, Auckland central or can be mailed to

Development Engineering
Auckland City Environments
Private Bag 92516
Wellesley Street
Auckland 1141

Contact us if you would like to arrange an appointment with a development engineer to lodge your application. This may be useful if an application needs to be looked at in detail or if you have any questions.

An appointment usually takes around 10-15 minutes. For more complex applications a pre-application meeting may have already taken place.

What to include with an engineering application

A duty engineer will check the application for the following:

  • three sets of plans including an A3 set in the format specified in the Code of Urban Subdivision and Development and Engineering Standard Details
  • engineering standard details
  • confirmation of certification by either a Chartered professional engineer or Licensed cadastral surveyor
  • catchment plans (where appropriate, for example drainage, water mains)
  • any relevant correspondence between council and the applicant or their agent, regarding this work
  • supporting calculations and reports
  • deposit fee
  • sketch of proposed works on council service plans.

Deposit fees are detailed on the application form.

To ensure that your application is accepted, it must be signed by an engineer and contain all of the required documents. If any of the requirements above have not been supplied the application will be rejected.
