About producer statements
A 'producer statement' is a statement submitted to council by a suitably qualified professional. It says that to the best of their
knowledge, their design is done in accordance with the building consent, and that when it is completed the building work will be in
accordance with the plans and specifications of the approved building consent. We use producer statements as "reasonable
grounds" for assuring compliance with the building code.
Examples of work where a producer statement might be submitted are:
- an engineer may provide a statement for foundations
- a mechanical engineer may provide a statement for heating ventilation and air-conditioning systems.
In order to submit producer statements to council, the specialist must first be registered as an "Approved producer statement
author" on council's register.
