Transition to Auckland Council
One of the biggest events to affect Auckland City Council in the last 12 months has been the government's decision to establish a single unitary council for the Auckland region, by merging the eight existing local authorities in the Auckland region with effect from 1 November 2010.
We have been working closely with the Auckland Transition Agency and the other councils in the region on the different workstreams required to achieve a successful integration. The amalgamation will generate efficiency savings through the merging of operations and greater economies of scale should benefit the procurement of goods and services.
For Auckland City Council investors, the retail bonds will be
transferred to the new Auckland Council with no change in terms or
conditions.
Our focus between now and October 2010 is to work in partnership with the
ATA to successfully transfer the council's assets and services into the
Auckland Council.
The ATA has liaised with Auckland's existing councils to create an
integrated treasury group to coordinate treasury decisions during the
transition period. The objective is to reduce treasury related risks for
Auckland Council on 1 November 2010.
