Come on: Be a Tidy Kiwi
Litter is a real problem for Auckland.
We're expected to produce over 1500 tonnes of litter this year, and that doesn't
include litter deposited in public rubbish bins on the street.
Be a Tidy Kiwi campaign is aimed at:
- encouraging people to put fast food packaging, cigarette butts and ATM
receipts in rubbish bins and
- reducing the amount of rubbish that ends up on our streets and in our waterways.
When it rains, litter can be swept into the storm water drains, and is then
emptied into the sea. You may end up swimming with it, and it's dangerous
for wildlife.

Polluted waterways
Each year there are many hazardous spills into local streams and waterways in
Auckland city. In many cases the council was alerted to these
spills and were able to get them cleaned up before they caused too much damage.
If you see a spill please call the Auckland Regional Council (ARC) pollution
hotline on 377 3107.
