Transfer stations

Auckland region | Waiheke Island | Great Barrier Island


Auckland region

There are a number of privately owned and operated places like transfer stations in the Auckland region which provide another option for rubbish disposal. You will need to contact them directly to:

  • check what is accepted (ie garden waste, recyclables, etc)
  • confirm opening hours and
  • check what fees may apply

Note: these places do not accept hazardous materials. See Hazardous waste disposal.

Waiheke Island - Transfer Station

Owned and managed by Auckland Council.

Hours: Monday to Sunday - 8am to 4pm.
Note: Closed all day on Christmas Day, New Years Day and Good Friday. Closed until midday on Anzac Day.
Run by: Transpacific Industries

You can purchase additional official Auckland Council red rubbish bags from the transfer station at $3.75 a bag. There is no charge to drop these off for disposal.

Items not accepted at the station

  • odorous, veterinary waste, hospital and medical waste
  • liquid waste
  • timber preservatives, asbestos and chemical manufacturing residues
  • herbicides and insecticides
  • car bodies
  • commercial hazardous waste
  • fill

Great Barrier Island - Claris Landfill

Owned and managed by Auckland Council.

Address: Claris, Great Barrier
Hours: Summer (20 December to 31 January)
Monday to Saturday - 9am to 5pm
Sunday and public holidays - closed.
Boxing Day - open 9am to 3pm.

Rest of the year (1 February to 19 December)
Monday, Wednesday and Friday - 9am to 5pm
Saturday 9 - 3pm
Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday and public holidays - closed

The landfill will accept all waste free of charge, including household hazardous waste as long as it is domestic and less than 20 litres.

The landfill will also accept car parts but only by prior arrangement. Call Great Barrier Cartage on (09) 429 0622 to arrange this.
