There are a number of privately owned and operated places like transfer stations in the Auckland region which provide another option
for rubbish disposal. You will need to contact them directly to:
- check what is accepted (ie garden waste, recyclables, etc)
- confirm opening hours and
- check what fees may apply
Note: these places do not accept hazardous materials. See Hazardous waste disposal.

You can purchase additional official Auckland Council red rubbish bags from the transfer station at $3.75 a bag. There is no charge to drop these off for disposal.

The landfill will accept all waste free of charge, including household
hazardous waste as long as it is domestic and less than 20 litres.
The landfill will also accept car parts but only by prior arrangement. Call Great Barrier Cartage on (09) 429 0622 to arrange this.
