About the venue:The community centre has the following facilities:
The centre's design reflects the volcanic nature of the site and its location between two mountains (Maungakiekie, One Tree Hill and Rarotonga, Mt Smart) and the Onehunga waterfront. Paths from the gates lead to a central outdoor meeting area. Three artworks complement the design. Two gateway pieces reveal entrance-ways, one carved by Ngati Whatua's Renata Blair relating to Maungakiekie and the other by artist Charlotte Fisher relating to Rarotonga. The third artwork is entitled "Sky Pools" - which features a series of lights incorporated into the entrance of the community centre, facing the Manukau Harbour. Capacity and cost

History
The new community centre
A needs assessment carried out in 1998 identified that the Oranga area required a flexible and multi-functional facility that had a local focus and which is able to cater for:
- large and small gatherings
- a range of family members, children, youth and older people
- passive and active activities
- indoor and outdoor use
- formal/pre-booked and casual/drop-in.
The new centre was official opened on 24 July 2004.
