Water
Water and wastewater services in Auckland City are provided by Metrowater.
Metrowater was established on 1 July 1997 to provide Auckland City's water
and wastewater services on a user pays basis. Metrowater is a Local
Authority Trading Enterprise (LATE), meaning it is 100 per cent owned by
Auckland City, through a holding company.
Metrowater operates as a separate entity, with its own board of directors and
consititution - but is directly responsible to Auckland City and our ratepayers.
Metrowater ensures that funds collected from wastewater charges are allocated
to maintaining and improving the wastewater system. Metrowater provides a
strategic plan and long term asset management plan that maps out future
maintenance and expansion requirements for the existing water and waste water
network.
