Guide to zoning
The district plan (isthmus section) uses zoning as the basic technique of land use control,
grouping together areas of similar character in terms of land use. For
information on zoning for the Hauraki Gulf Islands check out the planning maps
in the district plan - Hauraki
Gulf Islands section.
Zoning groups together land with a similar use and character, eg business
zoned land is used for commercial, retail and industrial purposes. Residential
zoned land is land where residential activities (homes and accommodation) are
the primary use of the land.
Refer to
the district plan to find out the zone of your property.
The zones and zoning maps
The district plan contains four activity zones. Within each of these zones is a range of more detailed sub-zones:
- residential activity zones
- special character zones (residential 1, 2a, 2b, 2c, 3a, 3b and 4)
- standard zones (residential 5, 6a, 6b, 7a, 7b, and 7c)
- business activity zones (business 1-5, 5a, 6, 7, 7a, 7b, 8 and 9)
- open space and recreation activity zones (open space 1 - 5)
- special purpose activity zones (special purpose 1 - 4)
