Open space and recreation activity zones
A range of zones have been developed for open spaces and recreational uses
throughout the Isthmus.
For more detail on the Open Space and Recreation zones and their distribution
see Part 9 of the District
Plan (Isthmus section).
Open space 1 (Conservation)
This zone provides for the conservation and protection of areas of particular
scenic, heritage, natural or habitat value. Activities and development are
limited in scale and intensity.
Open space 2 (Informal recreation)
This zone protects certain areas of open space to enhance the environment and
the enjoyment of informal recreation.
Open space 3 (Organised recreation)
This zone provides for organised sports and recreation activities, which are
compatible with the physical characteristics of the local environment and do not
adversely impact on the quality of the surrounding environment.
Open space 4 (Community)
This zone provides for community activities and buildings which serve the
needs of the community.
Open Space 5 (Leisure complexes)
This zone provides for a wide range of recreation and leisure activities on
larger sites while ensuring that any adverse effects are avoided or mitigated. See
Part 9 of the District Plan (Isthmus section) and Appendices
to planning maps.
