Special purpose activity zones
The District Plan contains Special Purpose activity zones intended to secure
and provide for a range of valued community assets.

Special purpose 1 (Health)
This zone provides for the use and development of large scale hospitals and
healthcare complexes and their supporting activities.
Special purpose 2 (Education)
This zone provides for educational facilities and specialised research
facilities while ensuring that any adverse effects are avoided or mitigated.
Special purpose 3 (Transport corridor)
This zone applies to all the existing railway rights of way and to certain
strategic roads for the purpose of maintaining transport corridors throughout
the Auckland Isthmus.
Special purpose 4 (Orakei)
This zone facilitates the re-establishment of Ngati Whatua o Orakei on their
ancestral land and particular lifestyle needs at Orakei.
