About this exhibition

This year's theme for the Auckland heritage festival is: From waterways to motorways the heritage of transport and travel in Tamaki Makaurau.

This online exhibit uses historical aerial photographs from the Auckland Council Archives collection, together with images from the Auckland Council GIS Viewer (GeoMaps), to show the development of key motorway junctions in the Auckland isthmus.

Images from 1940 through to 2017 show the development of Waterview, Upper Harbour Highway (Hobsonville Point), Newton (Spaghetti Junction), Maioro Street, Manukau and the Onehunga foreshore.
