Packet and Publicans' Licences Database 1900-1962

This database contains details of publicans' licences for the Ellerslie Hotel for 1900-1960, the Panmure Hotel, Star & Garter Hotel for 1902-1938, and Masonic Hotel and The Esplanade Hotel for 1905-1944.

The database also contains packet licenses issued by Devonport Borough Council to vessels owned by Settlers' Steamship Company and later Northern Steam Ship Company. Packet ships are vessels that operated on regular routes carrying passengers, freight and mail packets from one port to another. A packet license authorised the master of a packet ship to sell liquor to passengers during the voyage.

The database is searchable by location (i.e. suburb), name of applicant and owner, name of hotel or vessel, and date. Use the Browse button (where available) to browse the contents of these fields.
