Takapuna Borough Council Ratebook Index 1926-1927

The Takapuna Borough Council was formed in 1913 and was later declared a City Council in 1961. In 1989, Takapuna City Council was dissolved when Takapuna was amalgamated with other borough councils to form North Shore City Council.

This database is a transcription made from a Takapuna Borough Council ratebook covering the years 1926 to 1927. It is the earliest surviving ratebook for Takapuna Borough held by Auckland Council Archives.

The ratebook is arranged alphabetically by the name of the occupier. It is important to note that full street addresses for properties were not recorded in the ratebook, only the legal description of a property was given. The ratebook includes the following information:
  • Number on the [valuation] roll
  • Name of occupier
  • Address [the address the rates notice is sent to, not necessarily that of the property being rated]
  • Description and situation of the property [legal description]
  • Rateable value
  • Unimproved value
  • Total rates.

The database is searchable by name and street (taken from the property description where possible). Use the Browse button or drop-down list to browse the contents of these fields.

This database is a full transcript of the ratebook.
