Description
Showing the difficulties experienced by a Parliamentary delegation that made a motor tour of Northland in January 1917 that raised awareness of the poor state of the roads in the region. Scenes include cars being hauled from the mud by lines of men pulling on ropes; cars being ferried across a waterway on a flat barge; a car having its flat tire repaired on the side of a road; a beach being used as a thoroughfare for the lack of any other available road. In another scene local Maori do a haka on a beach. The back of one of the cars is shown in a close-up photo with humorous slogans written on its canvas top such as 'Honour the brave.'
