Description
Showing the wreckage of a train which was derailed near Mataroa in the Manawatu. The engine and smashed trucks are scattered along the bottom of a deep ditch while men work to clear the debris and carry it up the embankment. Part of a winch and ropes attached to the wreckage are also visible. Bush covered slopes are seen in the background. The driver died in the accident and the fireman and guard were left in critical condition.
