Looking towards the centre of Cook's Gardens sports grounds in Wanganui during the 19 July peace celebrations. The photograph is taken from the top and back of one end of the stadium seating, across the heads of the gathered crowd, while small groups of figures are evident on the grounds. The date of 19 July aligned New Zealand with the British plan to commemorate Soldiers' Day on this day, after the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on 28 June.
