Bio Note: Ranulph Dacre (1797-1884) was an early trader operating between Australia and New Zealand. He acquired land at Mangonui, Mercury Bay and Mahurangi before the Treaty of Waitangi, and the Weiti block, south of Orewa, in 1848. However, the Dacres did not move to Auckland (from Sydney) until 1859. Around 1878 Ranulph and his wife returned to England, living in Clapham, where Ranulph died in 1884.
