Say it with flowers

This online exhibition is a selection of beautiful cards from the 1870s to the 1950s taken from our Ephemera collection located in the Sir George Grey Special Collections. Flowers are universal and appear on a wide range of cards from Christmas and birthday cards to Motherís Day and mourning cards.

The cards in this exhibition are only a small part of the abundant ephemera collection. Ephemera is a term for printed material originally intended to have a limited life-span, such as programmes, posters, tickets, flyers, invitations and cards. These were originally produced as promotional items to pass on information about specific issues, activities, events, products, and services.
