Henry Shaw, the most significant benefactor to the Library after Sir George Grey, personalised this 1901 edition of the collected works of Shakespeare, by inserting numerous scrapbook pages of illustrations throughout, a process known as “grangerizing”. The original 10 volumes were thus extended to 40, with the addition of 3,500 illustrations from various sources.
