Vulcan Lane restored to former gloryFrom City Scene, published on 12 August, 2007
Auckland City Council is getting on with improving streets and open spaces in the CBD. Nikau palms, restored and replica paving, new lighting and street furniture are several elements of the recent upgrade that has enhanced Vulcan Lane. Retailers in the popular shopping destination now open their doors to a more spacious and interesting lane, that has retained its unique character and ambience. Extensive public consultation was undertaken before the upgrade - part of Auckland City Council's $157 million streetscapes and open space programme. No significant work had occurred in the lane - one of the oldest in the CBD - since it became a mall in 1968.
