Tree poisoning prosecutionFrom City Scene, published on 12 August, 2007 Auckland City Council recently prosecuted a Mt Albert resident for poisoning a generally protected Gingko tree. The resident, Rajest Kumar Lallubai Patel, pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $3500 and ordered to pay costs of $1392. The council brought the prosecution after a witness saw Mr Patel drilling holes in a tree on a neighbouring property and stuffing cotton wool soaked in weed killer into the holes.
