All global cities provide the opportunity for residents and visitors to sample some of the world's most exciting performing arts, and Auckland is no exception. The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (pictured) performs up to about 150 concerts a year and accompanies the national opera and ballet, as well as other international touring companies. Make the most of the opportunity to see some of our best musicians and singers, or local actors at their theatrical best - visit www.nzopera.com, www.aucklandphil.co.nz or www.atc.co.nz for a taste of what's coming up in our city.

  • Auckland City Council is providing significant grants for some of our city's major opera, orchestra and theatre providers. In the 2007/2008 year, Auckland Theatre Company will receive $105,000, NBR New Zealand Opera $75,000, and Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra $500,000. Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee chairperson, Councillor Penny Sefuiva, says a thriving performing arts scene brings major economic, social and cultural benefits to our city. "These organisations play a crucial role and the council is pleased to invest in their growth, and help nurture musical and theatrical talent."
