Pasifika Festival winFrom City Scene, published on 19 August, 2007
Auckland City Council's 2007 Pasifika Festival scooped "best established event" at this month's New Zealand Association of Event Professionals industry awards. The awards recognise excellent business practice in the events industry. Since Auckland City Council began running the Pasifika Festival in 1993, annual attendance has grown from about 30,000 to more than 200,000 - making the festival a key event on our city's cultural calendar and the largest free community event of its kind in the world. Pasifika Festival won the prestigious award for demonstrating innovation, rejuvenation and initiative in economic, environmental, social and cultural sustainability. The council wishes to thank the thousands of volunteers and all the Pacific Island communities that have taken part in and supported this event over the years.
