Mobile outreach helps homeless access servicesFrom City Scene, published on 19 August, 2007 Auckland City Council has provided $25,000 to help fund a mobile outreach service for the city's homeless people. The grant for the 2007/2008 year is part of the council's Homeless Action Plan to help improve the lives of the city's homeless. The after-hours mobile service began earlier this year and puts homeless people in touch with healthcare, drug and alcohol advice, counselling and accommodation services. The service was developed by the Auckland City Council, Auckland City Mission, the Methodist Mission Northern and the Salvation Army. Other strategies in the council's Homeless Action Plan include training staff to proactively respond to the needs of homeless people and helping to form the National Coalition to End Homelessness.
